Fox Quilt Progress

I finally got around to taking pictures of my fox quilt blocks!

They are turning out really nice! So far paper piecing is awesome. There are just a couple things that I will do differently next time.

Lesson #1: Don't cut out all your fabric until you've sewn a practice block. Most of my pieces were the right size, but I messed up and cut all the ears out slightly too small. Luckily I had some extra fabric and was able to cut out new pieces.

Lesson #2: Cut out the pieces with a seam allowance bigger than the usual 0.25". Maybe not everyone needs to do this, but I think I would enjoy the process more if I wasn't worried about aligning everything exactly right. Especially with the triangles! Those guys are tricky.

I think I will be doing a lot more paper piecing in the future!

New Quilting Project

There are so many babies in my life! There's another one arriving in February, so I've started putting his quilt together. Here's a sneak-peek of the fabric I got:

I absolutely love the bottom fabric! I saw it at the store and had to get it to use for the backing. The rest of the fabrics are all pretty plain for a change, because I am going to give paper piecing a try. And unlike a lot of things I do, I'm going to start out with something kind of simple:

Any guesses on what the final block will be?

I actually saw a quilt online that I liked, so I downloaded a program that allows you to design your own paper piecing blocks so I could recreate it myself. The version I came up with consists of 20 blocks of the same pattern, and my goal is to complete one every day. Hopefully this quilt will be finished before its giftee is born!

All the pieces cut out!
